How to Read a Stock Market Heatmap

A market heatmap visualizes hundreds of stocks at once, making it easy to spot trends across sectors and the broader market. Each rectangle represents a stock — its size reflects market capitalization (larger rectangles = larger companies), and its color indicates daily price performance. Green means the stock is up for the day, red means it's down, and the intensity of the color shows how much it has moved.

Understanding Sector Performance

Stocks are grouped by sector — Technology, Healthcare, Financials, Energy, and more. When an entire sector is dominated by one color, it signals a sector-wide trend. For example, a sea of green in Technology suggests broad buying across tech stocks, while red in Energy might indicate falling oil prices are dragging down the whole sector. This bird's-eye view helps investors identify where money is flowing in and out of the market.
